Off to a flying start

We arrived in Dresden on Friday after a 25 hour flight to a warm welcome. After heading to our hotel we hit the streets to check out the sights.

On Saturday we caught a hop-on-hop off bus around Dresden. We enjoyed lunch at Pfund Diary, a beautiful milk shop decorated from floor to ceiling with hand painted tiles from the neo-renaissance period. In the evening we enjoyed dinner at a beer garden along the river with GSE chairman, Jan Buchmann and District 1880 Governor Sonhard Lungfiel and his wife Christina.

Today was the official start of our exchange and we headed to the Frauenkirche for the Sunday morning service. We were privileged to meet with the priest before the service who told us about the history of the Frauenkirche. Afterwards we enjoyed lunch near the Frauenkirche and Paul did us all proud.

We then went to the Panometer, where a 360 degree, 3D computer generated photo of Dresden in 1756 towered 15 meters high in an old gas storage building. A very impressive sight.

We are now staying in a lovely Pension in Radebeul where we will be based for three nights.

Until next time
