Lost in a maze

After the late arrival in Diepoldiswalde last night we were finally able to have a look at this quaint  little town. Soon Michael Stetter and Gisela Pfannenberg picked us up for another day filled with adventures.
We drove to the Schloss Burk in Freithal where we were joined by Michael’s daughter Katharina and Gisela’s daughter Tina and her boyfriend Lutz. We then entered the Schloss and were shown Freithal’s mining and city History. The town was one of the richest towns in Saxony as, due to it’s mining. But once a tax was introduced that was mainly aimed at the electors and owners of the mines, the ‘headoffices’ of the mines were moved to Dresden and many of the City’s plans came never to flourish, due to lack of money.
After a short stop for lunch we drove to Tharandt for ice cream which turned more into a coffee & cake. The food is soooo good here… but we had a chance to work it off right away when we walked up the hill to the Arboretum, a garden where trees from all over the world are grown for show, preservation and studies. It is attached to the local technical University to enable the students to study on the ground. Amongst this most amazing and beautiful setting was a maze, where Rebecca and I took the chance to get lost.
To finish up this wonderful day we were invited to Michael’s house for a typical German Garden party. Thanks to Michael, Diana and Katharina for a wonderful evening.
