Riding the Porcelain Bus!

The day started with our last massive breakfast at “Schwarzen Seele” with Hanka from the Rotaract club of Meissen and Rotary Club President Horst Slesazeck. After that we loaded up the Salvation Army bus with Gerry and Lolita Dueck from the Meissen club.

First stop was the Meissen Porcelain factory for an awesome tour of the different steps of the world famous porcelain production process. A quick bit of tea cup shopping for Bek’s Nanna and then off to lunch at Gasthaus zur Alstadt where it was time for Paul to have a steak! The ladies tried some more traditional fare including a giant fish finger?!

For the afternoon Hanka took us on a guided tour of the Alstadt (old city) including the beautiful Frauenkirche, the church of Our Lady, with it’s beautiful porcelain bells.

Next we had a tour of the Albrechtsburg Castle, which was actually used to make porcelain when the process was still being formulated in secret. We followed up with a tour of the Dom Cathedral which is the only church without a community in the region and has been a tourist church since early 1900’s.

We then had cake and coffee (and beer) overlooking the Elbe River. A little shopping in the old city (and another couple of German local beers) and we were back in the bus to go to the St Afra elite school for a presentation on their specialised school system. A late dinner with the Dresden-Canaletto & Meissen clubs before a late night transfer to our new home.
